What Growing Wise Students Have to Say
About Your Gardening Guides…
Growing Wise co-founders Chloe and Natalie have taught thousands of students how to garden through online and in-person offerings.
We’ve both been growing vegetables for over 20 years, in all kinds of climates and situations. At times we’ve produced 80% or more of our own food.
We hold university degrees in Ecological Agriculture (Natalie) and Agroecology (Chloe), and also value what we’ve learned from land-based people and traditional gardeners just as much as from professors. We forgo agrochemicals and opt for organic and sustainable practices, incorporating permaculture principles so that our gardens are thriving and resilient ecosystems.
We love to eat what we grow and share it with friends. Learn more about us here…
We like to garden in ways that maximize pleasure and minimize drudgery.

Our courses are for anyone who wants to grow food with more ease, intention, and joy — whether you're just starting out, returning to the garden after some time away, or ready to deepen your skills. We’ve had students of all ages and backgrounds, from complete beginners to seasoned growers looking for more structure or support. If you're drawn to gardening that’s aligned with nature and nourishes your whole being, you’re in the right place.

Yes, and then some. Everything we teach is grounded in ecological wisdom and a whole-system approach. This not only means that we don’t use synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, but also that we prioritize soil health, natural cycles, and working with living systems rather than against them. We draw from folk traditions and hands-in-the-dirt experience that you won’t find in most mainstream gardening programs, even organic ones.
-
Yes. Growing Wise courses are designed to be beginner friendly and offer a lot for experienced growers, too. Our step-by-step teaching style is welcoming and clear, even if you’ve never planted a single seed. You can pick and choose which lessons feel relevant to you, and come back and dive into more advanced topics later if they feel like too much at first. Many of our students are brand new to gardening — and they’ve told us that they feel welcomed and supported here. If you have gardened before, you’ll find new insights, time-saving tips, and fresh inspiration throughout.

The Online Gardening School is our most comprehensive offering — it’s a multifaceted program designed to set the foundation for a healthy garden and guide you month by month through a full year of growing. You’ll learn what to do (and why), when to do it, and how to adapt it to your unique space. Our shorter courses (like the Ultimate Vegetable Planting Guide) zoom in on specific skills or stages of the gardening process. They’re great for focused learning or for folks just dipping a toe into the soil. When you sign up for the full Online Gardening School you get the best deal, since it contains literally hundreds of lessons that you can access indefinitely.
-
Yes — though you may want or need supplemental learning for your specific climate if you live in a desert, a very cold place, or a tropical region. Students have joined us from all over North America and beyond, in climates ranging from cold mountain zones to hot, arid deserts. They’ve all gotten lots of value from our courses. While some of our personal examples are from the Southern Appalachians, we include guidance on how to adapt everything to your specific region. We’ve both gardened all over the world, so we understand that things are different in different regions. Our approach is about principles, not rigid rules — so it travels well.
-
Absolutely. When you join one of our programs, you’ll be invited into our online classroom where you can post questions anytime — and Chloe personally responds with thoughtful, practical answers. We also host regular live calls where you can connect directly, get support, and hear from other gardeners on the journey.
-
You’ll have lifetime access to any course you purchase. That means you can revisit the lessons year after year, follow along at your own pace, and keep growing through every season.
-
We want you to feel confident in your choice to learn with us. If the course doesn’t feel like a good fit within the first 14 days, just reach out — we’ll gladly offer a full refund, no questions asked.
-
Yes, during each enrollment period we offer a portion of our income in scholarships to folks with financial need, who are gardening as part of a community project, and/or those who identify as members of a marginalized group. To apply for a scholarship, please fill out this form.

We love that there’s so much gardening info out there — but let’s be honest: sorting through random videos can be overwhelming and inconsistent. Our courses are structured, clear, and cohesive. You’ll get a guided path, not just scattered tips — plus the ability to ask questions, get real answers, and trust that what you're learning is grounded in both science and experience.

We don’t just teach how to grow vegetables — we teach how to tend a relationship with your garden. We weave together ecological knowledge, traditional wisdom, and joyful practice in a way that’s both grounded and inspiring. Our teaching is practical, soulful, and fun — and we’re here with you every step of the way. Also, we really teach you how to grow some serious food! Many of the online gardening courses and programs out there are focused more on ornamental gardens, or just scratch the surface of what it takes to grow vegetables.
We go deep, and you get to journey with us in our real-world gardens, the kind that busy moms like us actually work in, not the manicured beds that most programs show.
